Obituary of Wayne L. Dake
Wayne Lynn Dake, the son of Kenneth Dake and Dorothy (Jones) Dake, was born November 12, 1951 in Belleville, Kansas and passed away on April 20, 2026 in Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 74.
Wayne grew up in the Chester, NE area, attending and graduating from Chester High School. He then attended and graduated from Southeast Community College, Milford, NE, specializing in auto body repair.
Wayne then worked at the Hebron Body Shop in Hebron and later owned and operated the body shop for several years. He then moved to Milford, NE where he taught auto body repair at Southeast Community College and also created the television show, Speed Secrets, sharing racing information and track updates. He was a well-known racetrack announcer and promoter for over 45 years. In recent years, Wayne moved to Deshler, Nebraska.
Wayne was involved in several racing associations, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame and was inducted in the class of 2025 to the Beatrice Speedway Hall of Fame, Beatrice, Nebraska for his 40 plus years of dedication to the track.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Dorothy Dake; grandparents; and his daughter, Janellle.
Wayne is survived by one son, Joshua Jon Dake; four brothers, Loren Dake, Glenn Dake, Neal Dake, and Merle Dake; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Cremation was selected and the family is conducting Celebration of Life Services for family and friends at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 2, 2026 at the Chester Methodist Church, Chester, NE, with Dave Waring, officiating.
Inurnment will follow at a later time at the Chester Cemetery, Chester, Nebraska.
