Tashia Mumm Obituary

Tashia Nicole Mumm Tashia Nicole Mumm departed this life February 22, 2019, at her apartment in Papillion, NE, at the age of 23 years, 5 months, and 5 days. She was born September 17, 1995, to Gill and Jeanell (Harms) Mumm in Yankton, SD. She was baptized October 22, 1995, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Chester, NE, and was confirmed at St. John's March 28, 2010. The family resided at Bloomfield, NE, until July 1996 when they moved to Fairbury, NE, where she attended St. Michael's Preschool. The family moved to Chester July 1999 and moved to their current farmstead rural Chester in February 2003. In the fall of 2001, Tashia's class was the first kindergarten class of the newly consolidated Thayer Central Community Schools. Tashia participated in softball, club volleyball, and dance during her elementary years. During junior high and high school, she was active in sports, choir, band, Rhythmaires, Honor Society, Girl Scouts, and 4-H. She was a member of the Thayer Central State Volleyball team. Tashia especially loved volleyball, singing, and her pet cats. Tashia attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln and graduated May 2018 with honors in Bachelor of Science-Interior Design Degree. Tashia knew her senior year of high school that she wanted to pursue her passion for creativity and design. She loved being a Husker and the game day activities. Tashia was a member and executive officer of Phi Mu Sorority on campus. She was a leader and a mentor to her sisters and developed lifelong friendships. Tashia met the love of her life, Wade Backstrom, her sophomore year of college. She spoke often of their future plans together. Tashia worked part-time at Bath & Body Works, Archi + Etc. LLC , and Clark Enersen Partners during college and had a summer internship with Altus Architectural Studios, Omaha. This firm handled the remodel project for Thayer County Health Services, to which Tashia contributed her talents. The week after graduation, Tashia began work at Carlson West Povondra Architects, Omaha, NE. She was warmly welcomed by her new team of co-workers and quickly bonded over lunches out and after-hour get togethers. Always wearing a smile, Tashia was loved for her compassion, her bubbly personality, and her big, kind, loving heart. Being able to make people laugh while she encouraged them is a trait for which her family and friends will always remember Tashia. She simply was extraordinary. She is survived by her Parents Gill & Jeanell, and Brother Cody; Grandparents Ronald & Bonnie Mumm, Chester, NE, Robert & Jeanette Harms, Hebron, NE; Aunt Rhonda Vizner, Wichita, KS, Uncles Brent (LeeAnn) Mumm, Chester, NE, Curt (Kelly) Mumm, Hebron, NE, Thad (Elissa) Mumm, Hebron NE, Ryan (Andrea) Harms, Concordia, KS; Cousins Kelli (David) Svoboda, Hubbell, NE, Jennifer (Andy) Eiseman, Chester, NE, Derek (Eva) Mumm, Chester, NE, Patrick Mumm, Hebron, NE, Kieffer (Brianna) Mumm, Lincoln, NE, Trev (Fiancé Kalli) Mumm, Lincoln, NE, Connor Mumm, Lincoln, NE, Brock (Whitney) Vizner, Wichita, KS, Colton Vizner, Wichita, KS, Elijah, Jocelynn, Delainey, Violette Mumm, Hebron, NE, Owen Harms, Ian Harms, Concordia, KS, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 2, 2019, St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, NE, conducted by, Pastor Robert Hopkins. Interment will be in Chester City Cemetery, Chester, NE. Memorials may be given to Tashia Mumm Memorial Fund. Friends may call on Friday, March 1, 2019, from 1 PM to 8 PM at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS, where the family will receive friends from 5 PM to 7 PM.
