Russell Henriksen Obituary

Russell Lee Henriksen, 86, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026. He was born on January 23, 1939, in Courtland, Kansas, to Henry Henriksen and Ethel Boyles. Russell spent his early years attending Lincoln County School, later continuing his education at Courtland Elementary School and Courtland High School. He went on to attend Kansas State University for one year before returning to the life he loved most—farming. Russell was a lifelong farmer, working the land he cherished until the very day of his passing. Farming was not just his occupation, but his calling and his legacy. He spent nearly six decades alongside his son, Terry Henriksen, raising cattle and tending to the land. The two shared countless harvests together, finishing their final harvest together shortly before his passing.

On December 11th, 1960, Russell married the love of his life, Kayleen Henriksen. Together they built a life rooted in hard work, devotion, and family. Their marriage was one of enduring love, partnership, and shared values. Russell had a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. His favorite color was red, and his passions included basketball, especially playing town team basketball in his younger years, and later attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, which brought him immense pride. When he wasn’t out in the field, he enjoyed watching the news, taking long walks, drinking an ice cold Coca-Cola, and treating himself to a slice of cherry pie. Some of his favorite moments were spent sitting in his chair with his faithful dog, Mitzy, or going out to eat at Rocky Pond. He was also a proud member of the Elks Club in Superior, Nebraska for 63 years.

Above all else, Russell loved his family and his land. His steady presence, strong work ethic, and quiet dedication will be remembered by all who knew him. Russell is survived by his beloved wife, Kayleen Henriksen; his brother, Kenneth Henriksen (Judeen); cousin, Lynette Campbell (Richard); his son, Terry Henriksen (Christine); his son in-law Jim Farris; grandchildren Amanda Carlson (Jon), Kristen Henriksen (Tyson Gach), James Farris, and Jenna Farris; step-grandchildren, Jeremy Thayer and Jordan Thayer (Monica); and great-grandchildren Gunnar Carlson, Caroline Carlson, Halima Medina, and soon-to-be great grandson; step great grandchildren, Quinton, Whitney, Valerie, and Xavier.   He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Farris, who passed away on July 20, 2020, as well as his parents, Henry and Ethel Henriksen.
