Rodney Delay Obituary

Rodney Jay Delay, 59, of Wamego, Kansas, died Friday, April 13, 2018, at his home. He was a long-time resident of the community. Rod was born March 16, 1959, in Belleville, Kansas, the son of Charles R. and Gaynell Lindblad Delay. He attended local schools and graduated from Courtland High School in 1977. Rod worked for Westar Energy in Topeka for many years as a Database Administrator. Prior to Westar, he worked for a time at Jeffrey Energy Center. Rod had many hobbies over his life time and was very passionate about all that he did. In his early years, he played guitar and vocals for a country western band, The Open Road Band. He loved and enjoyed music of all types. He loved to hike and go backpacking, camping, astronomy, and cooking. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed everything from watching the local kid's play to MLB. He was a member of the NRA. Rod was a caring and loving son, dad, grandpa, brother and uncle. Rod is survived by his mother, Gaynell Delay, Courtland; friend, Christine Walsh, Wamego; children, Laura Delay (Marcos Franco), Las Vegas, Nevada, Kasey Coon (Tim), Wamego, Molly Delay, Pekin, Illinois, Daniel Delay, Wichita; grandchildren, Aiden and Addilyn Delay, Wamego, Naomi Coon, Wamego, Trevin Snow, Sophia, Ariana, Camilla and Marcos Franco, all of Las Vegas, Jewell and Dezirae Crocker, Wichita, his sister; Denise Thompson, Denver, Colorado; and niece, Logan Thompson, Denver, and nephew, Oliver Cleveland, Colorado Springs. Rod was preceded in death by his father, Charles Delay and grandparents. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m, Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego. A time of sharing will be held at 12:00 p.m. Inurnment graveside services will be at 1:30 PM Sunday April 22, 2018 at the Courtland, Cemetery, Courtland, Kansas.
