Obituary of Nicholas S. Day
Nicholas Scott Day, known as Nick, departed this life January 19, 2024 in Las Vegas, NV surrounded by his family. Nick was born in Cedar Point, KS on March 15, 1949 to John and Victoria Day. He married Audrey Kunc on January 30, 1970 and to this union daughters Shary Allison and Susan Michelle were born.
SFC Day was a member of the 82nd Airborne in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart. He subsequently transferred to the 1st Infantry Division and served in Korea, was the Berlin Brigade Drill Team Drill Master, a Drill Sergeant, and a Military Instructor during his 20 year career.
Nick then chose to become a truck driver for 20 years, earning the honor of Driver of the Year. He graduated with an AS from KSU, was a lifetime NRA member, and was past Commander of American Legion Post #345 of Cuba, KS. Nick was well traveled, venturing to all 50 states and 15+ countries during his life.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shary; parents, John and Victoria Day; sisters, Connie and Donna, and brothers, Rodger and Paul.
Nick will be forever remembered by his wife, Audrey; daughter, Susan (Chris) Kallaher; grandchildren, Alexandra and Brooks Kallaher; sister, Sue (Tom) Drake, and sister LeAnn (John) Vandenberg; sister-in-law, Charlotte (Terry) VanWey; brother-in-law, Lawton (Beverly) Kunc, 20 nieces and nephews, and many friends worldwide.
Private burial services will take place at a later date at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, Ft. Riley, Kansas.
