Obituary of Mildred A. Heapes:
Mildred A. Heapes, daughter of Frank J. Tuma and Albina B. (Chruma) Tuma was born May 3, 1923 at Cuba, Kansas and passed away on February 6, 2022 at CHI Health St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 98.
Mildred graduated from Cuba High School. She enjoyed playing on the boys baseball team and was the only girl allowed to play on the boys baseball team in Cuba School, she also played on the girls basketball team at Cuba.
She was a cook at the Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, KS for over 20 years. She enjoyed entertaining at the Belleville Health Care Center and the Belleville Hospital with the Woodman’s, doing reading and poetry recitations until she was 97.
She was a member of the Belleville Wesleyan Church, Belleville, KS and the American Legion Auxiliary.
The love mother showed for her 98 years was returned to her ten fold. Our words cannot express the appreciation and gratitude that we have for her church family and community for the love they have showed in her last years on earth. Her faith and love of family and friends were always the most important things in her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Albina Tuma, two sons, Robert E. Heapes Jr. and Victor Gene Heapes, two daughters, Sheri Lynn Blazek and Mary Ann Carlock, one brother, Lodis Tuma, two sisters, Blanche White and Anna Stolzenburg.
She is survived by one son, Clayton R. Heapes of Belleville, Kansas, one daughter, Judy (Dan) Cameron of Maud, Texas, 5 grandchildren, a special grandson, Michael Blazek, 17 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Two PM, Thursday, February 10, 2020, Belleville Wesleyan Church, Belleville, Kansas, conducted by, Pastor Mark McGregor.
Interment will be in Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS.
Memorials may be given to Belleville Wesleyan Church, Belleville, KS.
Friends may call on Wednesday, February 9, 2020, from 1 PM to 8 PM at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS, where the family will greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM.
