Obituary of Marguerite M. Seybold
Marguerite Madeleine Seybold, formerly of Republic, KS, the daughter of Paul Petit and Helene (Lambs) Petit, was born June 16, 1928 in Algrange (Moselle), France and passed away on December 8, 2020 at the Mt Joseph Senior Village, Concordia, Kansas at the age of 92 years, 5 months, and 22 days.
Marguerite spent her childhood in Nilvange, France. She learned how to speak French and German very early and learned English in Secondary School during the annexation of Moselle (1940-1944)
Marguerite met her future husband Gotthilf Seybold in Nilvange at the beginning of September, 1944 where he was serving with the US Army. She enrolled as an interpreter (she was then 17) at that time. She was the 2nd youngest interpreter in the US Army, serving in the 398 MP Battalion, Company D in Mourmeleon-le-Grand. She later transferred to Chalon-sur-Marne, where she continued to be an interpreter until the fall of 1946.
On December 22, 1948 in France, she was united in marriage to Gotthilf E. “Sy” Seybold and to this union three children were born: Yvonne, Sonya and Calvin. The couple made their home in rural Republic, KS. Sy passed away December 17, 1974. On August 10, 1978, she was united in marriage in Belleville, KS to John “Jack” Seybold. He passed away on December 16, 1988.
Marguerite was a nurse’s aide and dietary aide at the Republic County Hospital for 25 years. She also worked nights at Republic County Hospital, Long Term Care.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Republic, KS
Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Helene Petit, and her husbands, Gotthilf E. “Sy” Seybold and John “Jack” Seybold.
She is survived by two daughters, Yvonne (Mike) Hoops of rural Byron, NE and Sonya (Jay) Sooter of Wichita, KS; one son Calvin (Charlotte) Seybold of rural Republic, KS; 6 grandchildren, Sarah (Tony) Jackson of Omaha, NE, Joshua (Melissa) Hoops of Lincoln, NE, Kate (Gilbert) Bolivar of Winter Garden, FL, Christian (Jessica) Seybold of Denver, CO, Jillian Couture of Belleville, KS and fiancé T. J. Livingston, and Paul Seybold of Wichita, KS and fiancé, Saren Hobelmann; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Madeleine Morel of Chattancourt, France; other relatives and friends.
Private Family Graveside Services and interment will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Byron, NE with Pastor Lori Kitzing, officiating.
Visitation for the public will be from 1 PM until 6 PM Friday, December 11th at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS. The family will not be present.
