Obituary of Loren A. Hammer

            Loren A. Hammer, 82, the son of Harold and Mabel (Barleen) Hammer, was born April 7, 1941 in Concordia, Kansas and passed away on October 31, 2023 in Concordia, Kansas.

            Loren grew up on the family farm near Norway, Kansas and attended Norway Grade School.   He was united in marriage to Linda K. Reece on June 20, 1959 in Scandia, Kansas.  The couple made their home in Scandia, KS and were married for 64 years.

            Loren was a lifelong farmer in the Norway and Scandia areas.   He was an avid reader, especially of local and American history.   He collected history books and antique tractors.    Loren enjoyed hunting with family and friends, observing nature, picnics and hikes with his grandchildren.    He always looked forward to spring and farming challenges of another growing season.

            Loren was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Maurice Hammer, and son, Lance Hammer.

            Loren is survived by his wife, Linda Hammer, of Scandia, KS; daughter, Lori (Mark) Gross; grandchildren, Ashley Gross, Greg (Shelby Noel) Gross, and Julie Gross; brothers, Gene (Sue) Hammer, Gary (Linda) Hammer, Don (Annette) Hammer; sister, Virginia (Ron) Hawley; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

            Graveside funeral services and interment will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Norway Cemetery, Norway, Kansas with Pastor Dennis Beckmann, officiating.

           A luncheon and fellowship will follow at the Norway Community Center.

            Friends may call from 1 PM until 8 PM on Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, Kansas.

            Memorials are suggested to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Norway, KS.
