Leonard Bridgman Obituary

        Leonard Bridgman, 85, of Belleville, Kansas, died on Friday, February 21, 2020 in Belleville, Kansas.  He was born on December 3, 1934 at Hooper, Nebraska.  

       Survivors include his Wife of 63 years, Carol; Brother Lee (Mardel) Bridgman; Daughters Lori (Jim) McDonald, Lisa Hedstrom, and Jodi (Kevin) Case; Grandchildren Ross McDonald, Clark (Stephanie) McDonald, Lance (Becca) Hedstrom, Lonisa (Josh) Melton, Landon Hedstrom, LaShae Hedstrom, Bryce (Karly) Case, Savanah Case, and Keaton Case, and four great-grandchildren. 

        Leonard was preceded in death by his parents Dwight and Edna Bridgman and Sister Phyllis Eichmeier and Brother Bill Bridgman.  

       He proudly served his country from 1953-56 in the United States Marine Corps.  After returning from the military until 1965, Leonard worked for the Department of Utilities in Fremont, Nebraska where he also constructed a number of houses. He and his family moved to Belleville in 1965 to open a Coast to Coast Hardware Store that he and his wife owned and operated for 20 years.  During that time, Leonard was involved in a number of community organizations including a Charter Member of the Belleville Country Club, Lions Club, Exalted Ruler of The Elk’s, and Grand View Housing Board.  

      Following retirement in 1985, Leonard and Carol enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and out of the country on numerous occasions.  Leonard was an avid golfer, he loved to hunt and fish with his grandkids, and enjoyed trips to Colorado to snowmobile and ski.  Winters were spent in the warmth of Arizona enjoying friends, golf, lawn bowling, and woodworking.  

     A memorial service will be held at the American Lutheran Church, Belleville, KS at 11:00 am. Monday, February 24, 2020.   Prior to the service, family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am at the Church. Friends are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship following the service.  Memorials may be made to the “Leonard Bridgman Memorial”.

      Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
