Obituary of Jon Blackwood: Jon Blackwood, son of Byron Blackwood and Helen (Clark) Blackwood Ross was born March 20, 1940 in Belleville, Kansas and passed away on June 23, 2018 in Norfolk, Virginia at the age of 78 Jon joined the National Guard while in high school in 1957, the U.S. Army from 1958-1961 and finally the U.S. Navy in 1962. He proudly served his country for 31 years before retiring as Master Chief. His time in the Navy took him many different places, but he made his home in Norfolk. Even in retirement, he stayed active. He was a life time member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 3160, Military Order of the Cooties, Fleet Reserve Association Branch 60 and Ocean View Democratic and Social Club. Jon is survived by two daughters, Rachelle (Kenny) Rankin of Amsterdam, MO, Darcie Blackwood of Harrisonville,, MO, sister, Liz (Kent) Swaney of Derby, KS, three grandsons, good friend, Ann Hill of Norfolk, VA. Cremation was chosen There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Kansas.. Military graveside services will be conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Inurnment will be in Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS. Memorials may be given to the Jon B. Blackwood Memorial Fund.
