Jimmy Frank Dow received his final promotion to glory on June 16, 2020.
He was born July 1, 1943 to Bill Frank and Naomi Mary (Stephenson) Dow in Belleville Kansas.
Jimmy attended Belleville High School graduating May 1961. Enlisted in the Army in 1961, Company D of the 1st Infantry Division’s 28th Infantry, 1st Battle Group (Big Red 1). Completed combat-in-cities training in Berlin Germany near the East-West Berlin border. Jimmy was a lifetime active member of the VFW.
Jimmy met the love of his life, Sherry Irene while stationed in Riley Kansas. They were married, August 23, 1964. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary August 2014, before she passed February 2015. Jimmy and Sherry have two children, Angie (Wayne) Telford and Jimmy F. Dow, Jr. Two grandchildren, Melissa Telford (Clinton Crawford) and Christopher Telford.
Jimmy’s career after the Army was dedicated to the transportation of petroleum. He first worked for Herman Brother’s as a fuel truck driver out of Superior, NE. Then worked as a “pumper/operations coordinator” monitoring and controlling the flow of fuel through lines in the US from the Midwest to the Southern Coast for Champlin Petroleum. After the closure of Champlin Oil Jimmy then began working for Explorer Pipeline in Greenville TX, Port Arthur TX, and Glenpool OK before retiring from Explorer’s home office in Tulsa, OK.
Celebration of life will be held Saturday June 20, with visitation available from 9:00AM to beginning of service at 2:00PM, Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville, KS., with Jacob Rice, Officiating, Central Christian Church. The family then invites friends to join them at Rocky Pond to celebrate Jim’s life with a potluck meal and to pop open a cold one!
