Gladys F. Splichal

Gladys F. Splichal, daughter of Mike and Francis (Chopp) Knedlik, was born March 4, 1921 on her parents farm in Farmington Township, Republic County, Kansas and passed away on December 18, 2011 at Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 90 years, 9 months and 14 days. She was a lifetime resident of Republic County. Gladys attended rural Bethlehem Grade School, Narka High School for two years and graduated from Cuba High School in 1939. She was united in marriage to John R. Splichal on June 5, 1940 at rural St. George's Catholic Church and to this union three children were born, Mary, Raymond and Philip. Gladys was a devoted farm wife, mother, homemaker, grandmother and great grandmother. A few years after the death of her husband John in 1964, she moved from the family farm near Munden to a residence in Belleville, KS. She worked part time jobs at Republic County Hospital and a local ladies dress shop. She was a member of St. George's Catholic Church in Munden, KS. and later of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Belleville, KS. and a member of the Altar Societies of both churches her entire adult life. She was also a member of the Republic County Czech Club, Munden Merrymakers and As you like it. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Francis Knedlik, husband, John R. Splichal and her two brothers, Earl and Charles Knedlik. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Ruda and her husband Richard of Lima, Ohio, two sons, Raymond Splichal and his wife Kathy of Munden, KS., Philip Splichal and his wife Sally of Munden, KS., grandchildren, Cheryl Labuda and husband Jim of Elmhurst, Illinois, Jill Ruda of Lima Ohio, Alan Ruda and wife Tracey of Rockport, Michigan, Patrick Splichal and wife Christine of Olathe, Kansas, Dr. Lisa Carroll and husband Mark of Longmont, Colorado, Mitch Splichal and wife Peggy of Rockford, Illinois, Ryan Splichal and wife Becky of Omaha, Nebraska, Nicolas Splichal and fiancée Julie Arnett of Manhattan, Kansas, great grandchildren, Lily and Sophie Labuda, Carly Triplett, Emily, Katie and Zach Ruda, Dylan, Trevor, Megan and Hayden Splichal, Alexis, Erin and Katy Carroll and Finn Splichal, three step great grandchildren and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held Ten Thirty AM, Wednesday, December 21, 2011, St. George's Catholic Church, Munden, Kansas, conducted by, Fr. Barry Brinkman. Vigil/Rosary service will be Seven PM, Tuesday, December 20, 2011, Bachelor-Surber Chapel, Belleville, Kansas. Interment will be made in St. George's Catholic Cemetery, rural Munden, Kansas Memorials may be given to Family Choice
