Obituary of Eugene C. Hanel
Eugene Clarence Hanel, the son of Clarence William Hanel and Katie I. (Morgan) Hanel, was born August 1, 1930 in Munden, Kansas and passed away at his home in Belleville, KS on March 17, 2020 at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 16 days.
Eugene attended the Tabor School and later graduated from Munden High School. He then served with the U.S. Army from July 27, 1952 until his honorable discharge on June 27, 1954.
He returned to the local area and farmed in the Fairview Township. He also worked for the Soil Conservation Office for Republic County for 10 years. Eugene was a lifetime farmer and stockman until his retirement.
Eugene was a member of the American Legion Post # 345, Cuba, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Katie (Morgan) Hanel, and his sister-in-law, Evelyn Hanel.
Eugene is survived by one brother, LaVerne G. Hanel of Belleville, KS; Nieces and Nephews: Barbara Mitchell of Waco, Texas; Diane (Marlin) Woodman of Belleville, KS; Alan Hanel of Belleville, KS; James Hanel of Waco, Texas; and Verna “Joyce” (Larry Deherrera) Roberts of Bellmead, Texas; other relatives and friends.
Cremation was selected and Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 3, 2020 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas with Pastor Mark McGregor, officiating. Inurnment will be at the Tabor Cemetery, rural Munden, KS with Military Graveside Rites and Honors.
The family will greet friends from 9 AM until 10 AM on Friday, July 3rd at the funeral home, prior to the services.
Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Post #345, Cuba, Kansas.
