Ellis J. Dunstan was born March 11th, 1950 and passed away on the 20th of August, 2025 at the age of 75. He was the middle child of Edwin Dunstan and Erma (Snyder) Dunstan.
Ellis grew up in Montrose, KS where he attended elementary school and graduated from Mankato High School. Ellis served in the army for six years, farmed in the Formoso area, served on the Jewell County Extension and Soil Conservation Boards, was a Dispatcher at Jewell County Sheriff’s office for 10 years, and worked at the sale barns in Mankato and Belleville.
He had three children, Nanette, Elwin, and Earl. On July 22nd, 1995 he married Marilyn (Larson) Coil, forming a ‘Brady Bunch’ family and moved to Scandia.
Ellis never needed an excuse to, “Just go out with friends or to coffee for good verbal abuse.” Ellis will be remembered for his factual information, sense of humor, and process of getting out the door saying, “Glad you got to see me,” or “The privilege was all yours.”
Ellis is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Erma (Snyder) Dunstan, grandson Cayden Michael Dunstan, and stepson Brendan Thayne Coil.
Ellis is survived by his wife, Marilyn, brother Edwin ‘Eddie’ (Clelia), sister Elesa (Bill McMillan), his children, Nanette (David Carpenter), Elwin (Janie) and Earl (Crystal), stepchildren Aaron Coil (Jana), Kristen (Jeremy Mooer), Samantha Rines O’Dell, and 14 grandchildren; Kayla, Kalli, Easton, Evea, Elliott, Aubrey, Paisley, Davin, Savannah, Myles, Pierce, Covin, Sebastian, and Isaac.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Amana Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathy Aeillo officiating. Inurnment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Montrose, KS.
Friends may sign the register book, Friday, August 29, 2025 from 1:00pm-7:00pm at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, KS with Family Greeting Friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Solomon Valley Hospice or Amana Lutheran Church in care of the Funeral Home.
