Obituary of Donald C. Johnson
Donald C. Johnson, the son of Ruben and Ruth (Lervold) Johnson, was born October 9, 1930 in Buffalo, Kansas and passed away on December 26, 2020 at Jewell County Hospital-ISB, Mankato, Kansas at the age of 90 years 2 months, and 17 days.
Don moved with his family at an early age to Scandia, Kansas where he grew up and attended the local public schools, graduating from Scandia High School. Following his graduation, he served with the United States Army from 1951 until 1953, serving in Korea. He later served with the US Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1957.
Don was united in marriage to Norma E. Ross on August 2, 1953 and he began farming north of Formoso where the couple made their home. Don also was a farmhand and worked at the Mankato Livestock Commission Company for many years. The couple moved to Mankato, Kansas in 2004.
Don was a member of the American Legion in Jewell, Kansas and the VFW in Mankato, KS.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Don Johnson in 1974 and his wife, Norma Johnson in 2012.
Don is survived by one son, Tony A. (Katherine) Johnson of Smithfield, Virginia; one daughter, Deanna L. (Mitchell) Snell of Concordia, KS; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one sister, Peggy (Delbert) Tholstrup of Salina, KS, other relatives and friends.
Graveside funeral services for the public will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the Balch Cemetery, rural Formoso, Kansas.
Interment will follow the services.
Friends may call from 12 Noon until 6 PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS (the family will not be present)
Memorials are suggested to the Formoso Community Church.
