Obituary of Carol D. Novak

            Carol Dean Novak, the daughter of Edwin Scott Halferty and Zella May (Haldeman) Halferty, was born November 2, 1940 in Denver, Colorado and passed away on April 21, 2022 at her home in Belleville, Kansas at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 9 days.

            Carol grew up outside Haddam, Kansas on a small farm and graduated from Haddam High School in the class of 1958. In 1961, she was united in marriage to Edward B. Novak and to this union was born:  John, Steven, Lana and Carrie. The couple made their home on a farm near Belleville, Kansas where Carol lived for over 50 years. She recently moved from the farm house to Belleville related to her battle with pancreatic cancer.     Carol was a homemaker and dietary aid at the Belleville Health Care Center for more than 20 years.

            Carol was a member of the First United Methodist Church, recently being baptized.    She enjoyed playing cards and eating lunch at the Golden Bell Haven, playing cards with family and friends along with gardening, plants and sewing.   Carol enjoyed her coffee and ice cream with friends at the Dairy Queen, homemade ice cream, and watching television.   In her early years, she and her husband, Edward enjoyed polka dancing in Cuba and Munden.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, on July 22, 2002; parents, Edwin and Zella Halferty; and one sister, Karon Halferty.

            Carol is survived by 4 children, Carrie S. Novak of Independence, MO,  John E. (Michelle) Novak of Dover-Foxcroft, ME, Steven A. Novak of Belleville, Kansas, and Lana J. Novak of Belleville, KS;  5 grandchildren:  Kristin Novak, Chase Novak, Astraea Novak, Raychel Poisson, and Riley Poisson;  two sisters, Marilyn Mendenhall of Concordia, KS and Mary Adkins of Fairbury, NE; one brother, Edwin (Carolyn) Halferty of Clyde, KS; other relatives and friends.

            Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, April 29, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, Kansas with Reverend Sang Hak Lee, officiating.

            Interment will be at the Tabor Cemetery, rural Munden, Kansas.

            Visitation will be from 1 PM until 8 PM on Thursday, April 28th at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas where the family will greet friends from 6 PM until 8 PM on Thursday.
            The funeral services will be livestreamed via the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, Kansas Facebook page. 

            Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or the Golden Bell Haven (Church People Concerned).
