Obituary of Betty J. Hallowell
Betty J. Eastman Hallowell, the daughter of Bert Edwin Shenaman and Myrtle Mae (Bergstrom) Shenaman, was born March 18, 1929 between Talmo and Wayne, Kansas and passed away on June 16, 2022 at the Republic County Hospital at the age of 93 years, 3 months, and 16 days.
Betty lived in the Republic County area her entire lifetime. As a child, she worked for other people with farm work and assisted her Grandpa with whatever needed to be done on the farm.
She was united in marriage to Dale L. Eastman on August 12, 1950 and to this union was born: Robert, Roberta, Randy, Darrell, and Lillian. He preceded her in death.
Betty was united in marriage to Frank Hallowell and there were 7 children of Frank's: Bob, Kent, Dennis, Ron, Marilee, Jeff, and Shawn. Betty loved all of her children and grandchildren very much.
Betty worked at the Kravemore 81 Café for many years, the Dinner Bell Café, and later at MC’s in Belleville. Betty owned and operated her own café: Mom and Pops on east side of the square in downtown Belleville. She then owned and operated the café in Munden, Kansas until she retired. Betty later moved to the Buffalo Apartments in Belleville. She made cakes and cinnamon rolls for the other apartment residents as long as her health would allow.
She was preceded in death by her son, Darrell Eastman, her parents, Bert and Myrtle Shenaman; first husband, Dale Eastman; second husband, Frank Hallowell; brother, William Shenaman; 2 sisters, Violet Shenaman-Anderson, and Margaret Shenaman-Skinner; granddaughters, Genevee and Casandra, and Grandson Kerry Eastman.
Betty is survived by her children, Robert (Linda) Stone, of Topeka, KS, Randy (Marsha) Eastman, of Salina, KS; Roberta (Bill) Davis of White Bluff, TN; Lillian (Lloyd Rice) Willenborg of Munden, KS; Marilee Curbin of Las Vegas, NV, Robert Hallowell, Dennis Hallowell, and Ronald Hallowell all of St. Joseph, MO, Kent Hallowell of St. Louis, MO, Jeff Hallowell of Olathe, KS, and Shawn Hallowell of Manhattan, Kansas; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS with Pastor Sandra Jellison-Knock, officiating.
Interment will be at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Kansas.
Friends may call from 1 PM until 8 PM on Tuesday, June 21st at the funeral home for visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Betty J. Hallowell Memorial to be decided at a later date.
