Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Kunc
Mary Elizabeth Kunc, the daughter of George Freitag and Edith (Greider) Freitag was born April 14, 1928 at Diller, Nebraska and passed away on August 22, 2019 at Salina Regional Health Care at the age of 91 years, 4 months, and 8 days.
Mary grew up in the Diller community, graduating from Diller High School. She then attended Fairbury Junior College, Fairbury, NE. She later also attended Kansas State University, Manhattan. For a several years, she taught in rural schools at Haworth and Brantford and also substituted at the Morrowville Elementary School.
On May 20, 1951, she was united in marriage to Bohman Kunc and children: Janice and Erlyn came to bless the home. The couple made their home in rural Narka for several years and she assisted with the farm operation. In 1992, when her husband retired as a mail carrier, they moved to Belleville, KS to live until 2011 when they moved to Salina, KS. Recently, they had moved to Concordia, KS.
Mary was a homemaker and was involved in the National Extension Homemakers Council, serving as treasurer on the national level for 8 years. She was a member of the Diller Congregational Church, Diller, NE. Mary also owned a 1947 Plymouth that she entered in 14 car shows, winning 13 trophies.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Janice; son, Erlyn; One brother Dwaine Freitag; and one sister Joyce.
Mary is survived by her husband, Bohman Kunc of Concordia, KS; granddaughter, Ja’ Na Maupin of Galveston, TX; son-in-law, Steve Maupin of Humble, TX; one brother, Darrel Freitag of Beatrice, NE; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Cremation was selected and Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville, KS with Pastor Phil Goombi, officiating.
Family inurnment will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery, rural Narka, KS.
The family will greet friends from 1 PM until 2 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the funeral home.
