Ella Kuhlmann Obituary

Ella Sophia Adele Kuhlmann, the daughter of Herman Weers and Mary(Schleufer) Weers, was born Feb. 11, 1912 south of Byron ,NE in Republic County, KS. She departed this life on Nov. 9, 2011 at the age of 99 years, 9 months, and 29 days at Cherry Hill Nursing Home, Kansas City, MO. Ella was baptized March 8, 1912 and confirmed April 10, 1927 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Byron, NE. She attended rural school in Republic County, Kansas and completed the eighth grade. She excelled in reading and spelling and won several spelling bees. Ella was united in marriage to Charles Kuhlmann Jan. 10, 1932 and this union was blessed with three children: Mary Ann, Karis and Sharon. Ella was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, NE and was active in the Church and Ladies Aid. Ella and Charles spent most of their life married life on farms near Chester, NE. Ella worked at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, NE for seven years, retiring in 1982. After Charles passed away in 1990, Ella moved to Chester, NE. She lived there until 2007 when she moved to Kansas City, MO and lived with her daughter Mary Ann until 2009 when she entered the nursing home in Kansas City, Mo. Ella was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, son-in-law: Kirby Thornton; brothers: Dick and Vernon Weers; five sisters: Edna Grueber, Adele Grueber, Lela Stineman, Esther Simmons and Shirley Truges. Survivors include her children: Mary Ann Thornton of Kansas City, MO, Karis Kuhlmann and wife Shirley of Chester, NE, and Sharon Thomas of Kansas City, MO. 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, Nov. 11, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, NE with Pastor B.J. Fouts, officiating. Interment will be at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church or St. John Lutheran Cemetery Fund. Congregational hymns are "How Great Thou Art", "My Faith Looks Up To Thee", and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Michele Dinkel, granddaughter, is the organist. Pall Bearers are Scot Kuhlmann, Rob Kuhlmann, Justin Kuhlmann, Steven Kuhlmann, Chad Contreras, and Josh Contreras. Condolences and information at bachelor-surber.com.
