Obituary of Donna M. Stark

            Donna M. Stark, the daughter of William E. Heym and Julana (Millward) Heym, was born, June 25, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio and passed away on November 21, 2019 at Republic County Hospital, Belleville, KS at the age of 93 years, 4 months, and 26 days.

            Donna attended schools in Ohio and Michigan, later graduating from high school in Port Huron, Michigan.      From 1945 until 1949, she worked in Washington, DC as a Naval Ship Biographer, writing the histories of naval ships.

From 1966 until 1970, she owned and operated a ceramic shop:  Donna’s Pot Shop, Seattle, Washington.    From 1952 until 1990 she worked for the Veteran’s Administration in Seattle as an office supervisor.   She retired in 1990, and then wrote short stories for the Looking Ahead Paper, in Sequim, Washington.   

            On April 1, 1963, she was united in marriage to William Lon Stark.  In recent years, the couple made their home in Belleville KS.    He preceded her in death on February 1, 2015.   

            Donna was a member of the American Legion, Concordia, KS; the VFW in Sequim, Washington, and a member of the Writing Club in Sequim.     Donna also was an avid bowler and bowled for 40 years.

            She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William Lon Stark in 2015; son, Richard Saltmarsh;  daughter, Janice Sheridan; two brothers, Wally Heym and Dale Heym.

            Donna is survived by her daughter, Gail (Larry) Baxa of Belleville, KS; step-daughter, Janice (Stark) McCall of Everett, Washington; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren; other relatives, and friends.

            Cremation was selected and a memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home.    The family will greet friends from 6 PM until 8 PM with Kathleen Marsicek conducting a short memorial service and sharing of memories at 7 PM.

            Donna’s cremains will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean Strait of Juan de Fuca near the US Coast Guard Station, Port Angeles, Washington by the US Coast Guard at a later date.

            Memorials are suggested to the Republic County Hospital.
